The Deep Place
by Amanda Worthington
My heart is underground
In the deep place again
I’m feeling like the world
Is caving in
But there I go losing time
Because that’s already happened
And I am newly risen
.
Exposed now
Burning with the fire of my becoming
And your undoing
My odin’s eye shining with wisdom
Gained through immense sacrifice
Sharpened by seeing through
Your ill-constructed lies
.
My unmoving waters invite you to swim
But don’t stay long enough
To feel the pull of my rising tide
.
Because still buried somewhere within the limestone
That disintegrated under the pressure
Of one too many storms
Is revenge delayed
But never denied
.
You might have seen it coming
Had you ever taken the measure of my sad
The acid of your words
And their absence
Eroded my self-esteem
Until I felt too far down
To be worth saving
.
And now look at me
.
Aren’t you curious to know
How I came to embody this cruel pool?
Don’t you want to know what mysteries I hide?
Why so slow to reply?
.
You seemed all in
Have you changed your mind?
.
But now you’ve gone and taken too long
Well, time never was on our side.
.
Welcome, wayward soul to the deep place
Where men go mad
And thoughts race
And screams echo in futility
And the light is eternally
Just out of reach
.
The dark always suited you better
Than the sun’s rays, anyway
.
.

That is such a great response to the prompt – profound and mysterious.
