Another Full Moon

We drive separately, meet at the little Italian restaurant you love so much.

You are waiting in the foyer. It’s been a long time, say your eyes.

I order a bottle of Barbera Rosso. You sip it slowly, tickling the rim with your tongue. It was about us again for a little while. A walk on broken glass, but we got through it.

You have the chicken polenta grassa. Taste it, you say, extending your fork like you did  in Rome. We had so much in common, then. The great hunger. The thrill of the hunt, the smell of death after the Change.

It is a busy restaurant. We share a moment when all sounds stop. And another.

_Are we still the same? Will we run together, side by side tonight, loping through the midnight streets  and parks? Shall we again share the joy of pursuit, taste blood from the hearts of our prey?_

Would we like dessert asks our waiter, but you shake your head. There is a spot on the table. You rub it with your napkin until he returns with the check.

I walk you to your car after. Someone has dumped an ashtray in the parking lot. You step over it carefully, keys in hand.

“So, guess I’ll be seeing you.” Your yellow eyes say otherwise, but you step forward for a kiss.

A full moon tonight. I watch our shadows disappear behind a cloud.
