A Mother’s Pain
by Rie Sheridan Rose
‘Tis the time of year that I detest…
That some mistake as time for rest.
When Spring’s bright flowers
And Summer’s gay bowers
Both give way to Autumn’s showers.
I run my hand along the earth
From whence I earlier gave birth
To field and fruit, to grain and life
And end all green with bitter strife.
My brother sits upon his throne,
Deep below, where darkness owns…
And by his side—
Reluctant bride—
My daughter trapped by flesh and bone.
So, now the world is cold and gray.
And so will remain for many a day.
Hades brought this on you all,
When greedy eyes he caused to fall
On my Persephone, beauteous dove,
And forced her to be slave to love.
The Earth now wears this mother’s pain,
Until she comes above again…

Dark Poetry
Poems exploring hell and damnation. Tales of sorrow, vengeance, betrayal, and redemption. Ghosts, ghouls, and demons stalk these pages. Don’t read in a lonely house…in a darkened room by a single candle…
…unless you like the touch of an icy finger up your spine.

A fantastic poem.
