Glory Awaits the Privileged
by K.R. Morrison

The light was stunning. In fact, Louella was pretty sure that, if she was still alive, the sight of it would kill her.

Her eyes widened as she floated toward the light, the eternal realm that she always knew would be hers.

There was a movement to her left, and to her annoyance another soul was drifting toward the light as well. But as it got closer, Louella saw that it was her friend Draper, who had been battling cancer for a number of years.

“Hey Draper.”

“Hey.”

“Your number finally came up. I’m glad it’s you here instead of someone else.”

“You mean Sidney?”

Louella scoffed. “Well, him too. We were both offed just now in our car; some dummy ran a red light and here I am.”

Draper looked around. “Where’s Sid?”

Louella shrugged. “He started floating toward what seemed to be a dull blotch on the horizon. Wrong in life, and now wrong in death.”

Draper looked toward the glorious light beaming ahead of them. It was getting closer, but very slowly. “I don’t know, Louella. Seems to me that we should be almost there by now. Maybe we weren’t good enough in life to get to it.”

Louella’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Draper, I am shocked! You and I both know that no one deserves this honor more than us.”

Draper looked at her friend. “How so?”

Louella blew out an exasperated sigh. “Draper, we were born to this! Born with power and status, our God-given birthright because we never had to work among the commoners.”

“But all that work you two did among the lessers…”

“You’ve no idea how hard that was. I actually had to wash dishes and sweep floors. The only thing that kept me going was the idea of a long shower at the end of the day. Then, of course, the session with the masseuse.”

“Oh, right. Katy. How’d she do with the delivery of the baby?”

Louella shrugged again. “No idea. Guess the little rugrat has made its way into the world.”

Draper was about to make a comment when suddenly there was a chorus of singing, enveloping them and pushing them onward. The women basked in the beauty of it all.

Without warning, the chorus became a shriek, and the buoyancy became a force, pushing them closer and closer to the light. The women were now shrieking along with the invisible singers.

Suddenly the light went out and the stench of sulfur closed in around them. Huge tentacles reached from the abyss where the light had been and in less than a second they were swallowed.

Far away, in the arms of glory, Sidney stood with a countless army of people, the souls of all those he had helped over the years. He said a small prayer for his wife and her friend, and was then swallowed up in the realms of glory.

Enoch’s Return: Pride’s Downfall Book 4

All hell broke loose, as demon fought saint, and undead fought mortal. Fangs and swords, fire and light, mingled in a cacophony of noise that would have awakened the dead — if they hadn’t already been in the pitch of battle.

Toby was looking forward to celebrating his 21st birthday with family and friends. However, the day is shattered by the arrival of his sister, Erica, fresh out of the juvenile detention center, where she has lived in isolation most of her life. There is something very wrong with her still; witness her biting the ear of her taxi driver and licking the blood from her lips, and the way she antagonizes everyone around her. The other thing that is very off-putting about the day is a gift he receives – a musty tent and a few iron spikes that have been lying in the ground for years. Toby faints at the sight of the “treasure,” while Erica reacts violently and runs off to who-knows-where.
While he is unconscious, Toby learns who he truly is, and of his mission.
