The Ladies of Horror

Dive down to meet the dark
by Amanda Worthington
Every woman is a moon
Navigating dark skies that
Stargazers the world over
Cannot soon comprehend
Waxing and waning in sync
With forces that worry
And stress and upend
While pretending not to be offended
By the notion that
Entropy is a gap
That cannot be bridged
Or worn
Or ridden
.
Every woman is a ship
Navigating dark seas
Growing and shrinking
In concert with the devastating waves
That leave practiced sailors shored
And waiting for the storm to pass
And seeing only hardship and death and graves
In a realm teeming with understanding and life and
The other gifts the ocean has
.
Every woman knows
Yes, every woman knows
There is darkness that only deepens
The further down you go
And still she dives down to meet it
And entreats it to carry her on its back
And so it does
Every woman knows the color of what is
And the greyscale of what was
And is at peace with the undetermined hue
Of what’s yet to come
Led forth by the beat
Of the cosmic drum
.
.

A superb poem.
Absolutely beautiful.
