Best Be Ware
by Rie Sheridan Rose
The marrow bones
rattle
in the wind
tonight–
.
and on the
vast moor,
something howls….
.
They say the
Hunt
will ride
tonight —
.
searching for
souls
to harvest
like grapes.
.
Best be ware
and lock
the bairns
in the cupboards.
.
‘Tis an
evil wind
that carries
the cry of
the horn
.
and
all heads
turn
when the
Hunt
rides by.

Overheard in Hell:
Dark Poetry
Poems exploring hell and damnation. Tales of sorrow, vengeance, betrayal, and redemption. Ghosts, ghouls, and demons stalk these pages. Don’t read in a lonely house…in a darkened room by a single candle…
…unless you like the touch of an icy finger up your spine.
