Lost is Found
by A.F. Stewart
Over time the tree made the buried human skull part of its roots, but erosions and heavy rains exposed it again to the air. The sun-bleached its bone, but the starlight made it stuff of shadows and reflections.
She just called it home.
A creature of whispered tales and dark myths forgotten, she lived in the hidden parts of the forest, venturing out at night to hunt. Of her people, only she remained in the mortal world, a guardian, a protector of their secrets. Never again would they allow the humans to kill their children.
They learned their lesson. They took their revenge.
She smiled at the memory and stroked the skull of her fallen enemy. Blood spilled that day.
The Fae of Roanoke Island protected their own.

Loved this piece!! 😊
Just in time for Earth Day! Take care of nature or it (or its guardians, at least) may take care of you. Wonderful, pretty and dark.
Absolutely gorgeous! Loved the ending.
Delightfully creepy Anita!! Loved it!
