The Ladies of Horror
Picture-Prompt Writing Challenge!
Ten little spiders scrabbled upon the glass.
Eighty legs unable to catch a foothold.
Red sustenance with a foamy head like ale.
Almost close enough to touch
If that clear barrier did not stubbornly deny them.
“I’m hungry,” cried the only raven haired lass.
“I will poison that witch,” said one, now bold.
Each knew why a sip could cure their curse, their ail.
To be vampire again and such
Hateful red woman, with a wave of one hand, did condemn.
“Look! Her black rose wand lies unattended. So crass!”
The once beautiful blossom lay dead and cold.
“How can we defeat her? How do we prevail?”
Tiny said, “We can’t do much…”
“Other than spit out all our poison and coat the long stem.”
Waiting after, they hoped for death with one grasp.
“You can’t poison me,” she spat with a scold.
“Please release us,” eight spiders begged with a wail.
Clasped in her murderous clutch
She flung them to die on the web of her skirt’s sticky hem.
