Write Her Story
Beams of light shone through the window onto her feast. It was the perfect night with a full amethyst moon to power the spell she had cast. The sacrifice was a homeless vagrant whom had set up camp near her house by the park; a most fortunate event – for her.
She used her tools with precision as she finished cracking through his rib cage and reached inside him for the still beating treasure. His body spasm one last time as his soul found release. Lila held the heart high, showering it in moonlight before placing it in the silver bowl on her alter. It beat thrice more as she spoke her magic words and bathed her face in the warm blood of the sacrifice.
Lila felt the skin on her face tighten and smooth. Her wrinkled hands flushed with colour and the age spots disappeared leaving youthful, glowing skin behind.
The Goddess must be pleased with me. Finally I will be young again and live another eighty years! Lila’s brown, gnarled teeth tore into the tough organ. The juices so full of youth giving promise saturated her hands, face, and gown. In the flurry of bloodlust and magic she didn’t notice the thick shadow pass the window breaking the stream of moonlight, and weaving its way into the fabric of her spell.
Whispering words of invocation filled the room like a dozen young women speaking at once. Lila dropped to her knees, the heart rolled away from her as she saw the glowing hand thrust toward her.
“He was my son, and not yours to take.” The Goddess’s eyes glowed white.
Anguish of tearing flesh and breaking ribs filled Lila’s body.
Her heart torn free, the Goddess devoured it as the last of Lila’s youth and life snuffed into darkness.
