End of the Line

She had known this night would come. It had only been a matter of time. The adversary had been relentless, ever reminding her that the hunter was also the hunted. The witch’s charm had staved him off, but his magic had proven more powerful. She’d let down her guard, let herself love. How could she know he’d go so far to ensure her end? That a man could toy so cruelly with her emotions… that a man might poison himself before he gave himself to her, sacrifice himself to destroy this perceived evil?

She died alone.
