Hi! I’m Emerian Rich and for Women in Horror Month, I’d like to share with you three my favorite horror shorts.
“Prettiest Things” from the Horrific History
anthology published by Hazardous Press
“Prettiest Things” is a horror short set in American in the late 1800’s. I don’t want to ruin the surprise of telling you who the players are, but this alternate history story will have you guessing if I’ve told the real story behind these famous murders. I love the little baby vampire in this!
Book Blurb:
Evil has lurked behind the scenes since the dawn of time. Zombies in the ancient world, vampires in the Civil War, historical events big and small re-imagined Read the story behind the stories, and you’ll never look at history the same way again.
Featuring stories by Brent Abell, Pete Aldin, Jason Andrew, Monette Bebow-Reinhard, Rose Blackthorn, Rebecca L. Brown, Deborah Drake, T. Fox Dunham, Gwendolyn Edward, Aaron J. French, Tara Fox Hall, Christian A. Larsen, Ken MacGregor, Lynne MacLean, Adam Millard, Douglas J. Moore, Doug Murano, Christopher S. Nelson, Brent Nichols, Emerian Rich, Stephen D. Rogers, Julianne Snow, Cameron Suey, Jenny Twist, D. Alexander Ward, Jay Wilburn, David Williamson and Lee Clark Zumpe.
“Hammersmith House” from Horrible Disasters
anthology published by HorrorAddicts.net Press
The Horrible Disasters task was to write a horror story in which something horrific happens while the characters are also in the midst of a real natural disaster. My choice was the 1906 Earthquake and Fire in San Francisco. While the city falls into shambles around her, Maddy takes up residence in the home of a handsome man and his ailing mother. The secret she finds there, changes her life forever.
Book Blurb:
HorrorAddicts.net proudly presents Horrible Disasters. Thirteen authors from around the globe share their visions of terror set during real natural disasters throughout history. Travel back in time to earth shattering events like the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, and the Winter of Terror avalanches, 1950. What supernatural events went unnoticed? What creatures caused such destruction without remorse? Stock your emergency kit, hunker in your bunker, and prepare for… Horrible Disasters. Proceeds go to help disaster relief globally by way of the Rescue Task Force.
“The Monkey Queen” from Phobias
anthology published by Hidden Thoughts Press
There’s nothing scarier than real life phobias. In “The Monkey Queen” I share one of my true life phobias, monkeys. It freaks me out every time I read it. If you ever wonder how someone could be scared of those cute cuddly animals, just read this and you’ll never look at monkeys the same again. They’re out for blood, people!
Book Blurb:
Over 60 million people in the United States and Great Britain are estimated to have phobias. There is no specific gene that causes phobias. While anxiety disorders and phobias may start in childhood, and children who have a parent or close relative with a specific phobia may be more likely to develop it, there is no specific situation that causes phobias. However, most people who deal with an anxiety disorder or phobia on a daily basis know they are coping with a difficulty. They know that research is ongoing, such as studies on the amygdala, the specific brain region associated with the “fight-or-flight” response. They know there are no “cures.” From beta blockers to SSRIs and MAOIs to sedatives to behavioral therapy to biofeedback to herbal remedies, there is no one solution. They also know they are not alone! On these pages, you will find eighteen stories and one poem by individuals who courageously face each day, and each night, knowing life will throw many things, both good and difficult, in their path. And yet, they go on. Read, applaud, and be grateful for your own life.
Thank you for letting me share my stories with you and
I hope you are able to enjoy some of them.
