Memoirs of the Walking Dead

by Jason McKinney

About Memoirs of the Walking Dead, by Jason McKinney

Fantastic and darkly comic, Memoirs of the Walking Dead by new author Jason McKinney is the anything-but-humdrum-look at what goes on during the goings on of the undead. A surprising first novel that’s ironic, wry, and affecting, McKinney proves to be a master of witty repartee, shocking apocalyptic horror, and illustrating the reality of life—what it all truly means.

The Pelican Flu has claimed many victims—Paul Rierson, for one, and Tracey Dobbs, yet another. Half of the city they live in has fallen prey; the kicker is that being forced into zombie-life—the consequence of coming down with the deadly flu—isn’t half bad. The undead, as they navigate their new lives, attempt to lead as normal of an existence as possible. Sure it’s hard with the cravings of living flesh, but it’s not as if zombies just stumble around on autopilot. They think and feel, even fall in love; and, believe it or not, find things worth dying for. For Paul, being a zombie leads him to reconsider how he lived his previous life, as well as what he once thought was important, and he even falls head-over-heels in love with Tracey. He’s so smitten, in fact, that if he had a pulse, it would beat double-time. Still, as grand as undead love is, they’re hunted by the living—but then, no one said life as a zombie would be easy.

Survival Strategy According to Julianne Snow, Zombie Killer

Guest Post with Jason McKinney

Don’t Wait: Okay, I’ll admit that seems some what self-explanatory but it’s probably the most important. Waiting is only going to allow your city or town to fill up with hordes of those ravenous Zombies. Recognizing that there is a problem and reacting to it quickly is only going to help keep you alive. If you turn on your television one day and hear that the dead are again walking the earth, don’t wait. Waiting is bad. Get moving. Now.

Don’t Dismiss Traveling On Foot: We all know that traveling by car is faster, offers more protection and is more efficient. Zombies can only walk as fast as their oxygen starved, dying muscles will allow them to. So why shouldn’t you dismiss traveling on foot? Everyone is going to panic, get into their cars and head out of town. What is that going to cause? Gridlock. Accidents. Cars running out of gas and adding to the gridlock. It’s going to be hell on the roads and each moment that you are stuck in gridlock, unable to move away, is only going to allow the hordes more time to catch up with you. Moving on foot allows you more freedom. As long as you can walk faster than the horde, you’ll be okay. Just remember that a car is easy to navigate around while on foot, especially on a crowded roadway. The benefit to moving on foot is the fact that you don’t need to stick to roads either. The world is your oyster; let your feet help in your survival.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid: If at first you don’t succeed, avoid. Seriously. If you don’t need to interact with the Undead, don’t. It’s fairly straightforward. You cannot get bitten if you don’t place your body within the proximity of their mouths. You cannot get infected if you never come into contact with them. Simply avoid them. Avoid at all costs. Avoidance will help to keep you alive.

Author Zane Bradey: Aftereffects

Aftereffects: Zombie Therapy by Zane Brady

One day you are an average citizen, carrying on with everyday mundane tasks, the next, you are a fiendish zombie looking to tear off, and eat the flesh of every family member, friend, neighbor, and stranger you come in contact with. That’s where your story ends, right? You’re destined to live out your remaining days as a blood-thirsty zombie until deprivation or some un-infected vigilante lays you to rest?

Wrong. The government creates a cure for your cannibalistic condition. Unfortunately, you remember every gory detail of your killing sprees. Can you cope with the fact that you ingested your fellow human beings? Good news: psychiatrist Dr. Victor Frenzel has devoted himself to treating the psychological aspects of living life after being a flesh-eating zombie. He’s accepting new clients and wants to help you get on with your life. Unless, he suspects that you are one of the infected cannibalistic fiends who ate his lovely young wife, Barbara. In that case you might be a particularly prime candidate for one of his more cutting-edge treatments. Either way you will be cured…

My Addiction to Post-Apocalyptic Fiction

with Tonya R. Moore

I love it. I love it. I L-O-V-E it!

Post-apocalyptic fiction can take many forms and exists within a subgenre of science fiction. It deals with the end of civilization and that end can come from an almost infinite combination of events. All of those causes must culminate in an existential catastrophe and can vary from an impact event to extraterrestrial attack to dysgenics or even divine judgment. Quite simply, something happens that impacts a civilization to the point that it collapses.

From the fallout of a nuclear event, to weather patterns transforming the landscape, to a desolate wasteland, to a mutated virus that causes the dead to walk the earth again; post-apocalyptic fiction is incredibly diverse. That diversity opens the door for a multitude of fans which only helps to propel its popularity into even higher realms.

But what is it about post-apocalyptic fiction that draws us so closely to it? Perhaps it’s a sense of morbid curiosity. Society’s DNA is thoroughly infected with the rubbernecking gene. If something bad happens, a natural disaster or a tragic event, one can fairly accurately assume that a large sub sect of the populace will seek out information on it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that following the news is a bad thing; what I’m saying is that the adversity we see on the news has almost become a source of entertainment for some. Please keep in mind that as I say this I am a firm believer that not all entertainment is meant to be pleasurable. Even the definition of that has been twisted.

Author Luke Romyn

Luke Romyn spent many years, over seventeen in fact, working in the security industry. From door work in some of Australia’s roughest pubs and clubs to protecting Mickey Mouse and the Disney crew from the overzealous jaws of tenacious toddlers, Luke has worked throughout Australia and internationally in a vast array of roles.

He’s done close protection for UK celebrities in Fiji and chased feral pigs and snakes out of the jungle film sets on Steven Spielberg’s and Tom Hank’s epic: The Pacific. There are few things Luke hasn’t seen.

With all this experience behind him, it would be tempting to write a set of memoirs. Instead, Luke utilized it to fuel his own expansive imagination and began writing fiction. Initially starting with short stories, Luke rapidly progressed onto novels. His first book, THE DARK PATH, swiftly became a #1 best selling Horror and was also voted in the Top Ten Horror novels of 2009. BLACKLISTED is his second novel and has just been unleashed while his third, BEYOND HADES, is almost set to go and will blow the roof off action thriller novels.

Paradox by Patti Roberts: The Angels Are Here

A Little Girls World Is Turned Upside Down By The Angel Of Death

My name is Juliette.   Nine hundred years ago, I died.  Today, I am alive…

This is not a story about Vampires. However, we are talking about a predatory being that existed long before the word Vampire was ever whispered… the real monsters behind the legendary Vampire myths that reigned in Ancient times. They were a race of Fallen Angels called Grigorians.

Grace is a little girl on a journey of discovery. A
journey that she is struggling to understand as she deals with the
catastrophic events that are forcing their way into her otherwise
seemingly normal, if not sometimes, strange world. She finds herself
trapped in a nightmare, consumed by her paralyzing loss and overwhelming
grief. The haunting visions and untimely deaths of others are a
constant reminder that life and death are only a heartbeat away.

How Easy is it to write Unease? by Julianne Snow on Angela Brown’s in a Pursuit of Publishness

How Easy Is It To Write Unease?
To write? Or not to write? That really isn’t a question for me. I have to write. It’s a feeling that consumes me. There are times when I should be sleeping or catching up with friends… Where can you find me instead? Either furiously typing on my computer or at my desk, scribing out a story longhand.
There have been some stories that end up being tedious to get out. You start off with a great idea, only to have it disintegrate as you lay the words down.
Others come together so beautifully that you sit back and wonder where a particular phrase came from. Sometimes you are just able to hit the emotions and imagery on the head and it reads exactly how you saw it happening in your head.
