The Unknown

The green light calls to me

Hypnotising me as I head

Towards the unknown.

The last daughter of my mother’s line

It is my destiny

My fate to leave behind

All that is known to me.

The only certainty I have

Is that I will never see my family again.

So it is and so it has always been.

I know not what awaits me beyond the clearing.

I have spent my entire life fearing this moment

And yet now the fear burns me,

First a flicker, now it threatens to consume me

From the inside out.

As I reach the point of no return

I lean into the fire and let it burn…
