The Ladies of Horror
Picture-Prompt Writing Challenge!

Artifact
by Lee Mitchell
.I watch the past slam into the now
And the future crash into the two,
And all along
The people all gone
Who were here only a moment ago.
.
I stand alone on wizened bricks
And read the writing on the wall.
And creeping death
Defies heavy breath
While I wait for the terror to go.
.
But… the truth is here and now,
And I’m not sure what to do.
I don’t have long;
At the end of this song,
I’ll watch above while they put me below.

A beautifully eerie and evocative poem.
Both sad and creepy!
Love the rhythm of this poem – speeds along like a train with the surreal edge that anyone using an unfamiliar metro system will appreciate.
Thanks!
