Pluck out pieces of blood, bone, and sky. This is always how it begins. Mix it with free-running water, whether river or tears, and then feed it to the thirsty earth. It will demure at first, but then the dust will vomit up flowers and stinging nettle in gratitude. Thank the dunes kindly before you crush the plants and paint your cheeks and lips. This is how you become one with elements. This is how you become a warrior of the gods.
